Memorial Day is a day dedicated in honor of the soldiers who have given their lives for our country. Observed on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day, originally called Dedication Day, was honored shortly after the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans today observe this day attending cemeteries, memorials, parades in honor or having families get together.
